Experiment with the wonderful world of textile screen printing with this introduction to working with fabric! The emphasis in this class is on understanding basic concepts you need to know to successfully print on fabric, as well as a chance to try out interesting inks and materials in an informal space.
Using shared class screens, we will layer imagery to create printed designs on reclaimed fabric. We will coat and expose a photo emulsion screen and touch on key technical considerations for printing on fabric. We will also have fun with some unusual inks and experimental processes. Participants will leave feeling excited about the possibilities of textile printing, and empowered to get started.

The history of dyes and printing is also a story of people, plants and places. The land we live on shapes our culture, and craft technologies are intimately tied to the geographies and ecologies they arise from. So what happens to these traditions when we leave our homelands? Skye is part of the Goan diaspora, studying textile printing traditions of the South Asian subcontinent. How might artists engage with traditional print practices and knowledge in a way that is authentic, accountable, and adaptive? Is it possible to apprentice with plants? What do we gain or lose when we practice our artforms in a diasporic context?
